The story of Alára.
Discover Chef Onur Akan’s story and the hospitality at the heart of Alára.
The Tulip
The symbol we celebrate at Alára is the tulip, known as lale in Turkish. A treasured presence in Turkish gardens, art, and architecture for centuries. It represents beauty, renewal, and a connection to our roots. At Alára, it is a quiet tribute to our heritage, connecting the traditions that shaped us with the table we share today.
Chef Onur Akan
Born in Samsun on Turkey’s Black Sea coast and raised with Turkish, Albanian, and Greek roots, Chef Onur Akan brings a personal sense of hospitality to his cooking. For him, a memorable meal begins with good ingredients and the feeling of being welcome at the table.
His 18 years in the culinary industry have taken him through restaurant kitchens, luxury hotels, private clubs, and intimate dinners through Chef Akan Experiences (a boutique full service catering company). Along the way, he has cooked for world leaders, fashion and retail brands, professional athletes, and countless gatherings of family and friends. Each experience has strengthened a simple belief: hospitality should feel welcoming, personal, and natural.
At Alára in Dallas’s Design District, Onur brings together the flavors of the Mediterranean with a light touch and respect for the ingredients. His food reflects his heritage, his experiences, and the pleasure he finds in feeding people.
Through Alára, he hopes to offer what he has always valued at a table: food worth sharing, a warm welcome, and a reason to return.
A generous table.
Inspired by the Aegean, the Levant, southern olive groves and North Africa, Alára brings the warmth of the Mediterranean to Dallas.
